„The question would therefore be: How is the availability of the OBJECT to be explained? A first clue is provided by TLP 2.0121: "...If I can imagine objects combined in states of affairs, I cannot imagine them excluded from the *possibility* of such combinations." Behind the ontological façade of this proposition there are concealed, first, the principle of the priority of the proposition over its constituents and, second, the principle of the formalization of the proposition as the possibility of being able to *dispose of* the meaning of its constituents."

„There are similar consequences for the ontology of the TLP: its theme is no longer the object but the *fact*; the conventional ontology of objects is superseded by an ontology of facts: "The world divides into facts" (TLP 1.2) – not into objects; in the TLP, "object" is either a dependent constituent of the state of affairs or else the independent (condition of the) possibility of states of affairs (cf. TLP 2.0122 and ch."

„as a state of affairs), the OBJECT is available as the *determinable* object (as a derivative of formalization). The ambiguity of the "object" shows itself, for example, in TLP 2.0122: "The THING is independent in so far as IT can occur in all *possible* situations, but this form of independence is [with regard to the thing] a form of connexion with states of affairs, a form of dependence." The THING as a derivative of formalization, as the meaning of the name, itself contains (autarkically) the possibilities of its occurrence in states of affairs (cf."

(vgl. weiters: TLP-2.0123, TLP-3.263) …"

„"So one could say that the real name of an object was what all symbols that signified it had in common." (TLP 3.3411) – i.e.: the name is a formal concept under which fall all expressions that show-p the purpose of showing-c an object. (cf. further: TLP 2.0123, 3.263) …"

„This availability of the OBJECT is expressed in TLP 2.0123 f. as "*knowledge*": "If I know an OBJECT I also know all its possible occurrences in states of affairs..."

„as "*knowledge*": "If I know an OBJECT I also know all its possible occurrences in states of affairs... If I am to know an OBJECT, though I need not know its external properties, I must know all its internal properties." The knowledge of the OBJECT as the only possible modus of its availability is not refuted by the quasi-realistic way of speaking in TLP 2.0124 either: "If all OBJECTS are given, then at the same time all *possible* states of affairs are also given." Rather, the true face of the ontologizing way of speaking shows itself here: a realism must founder on the paradox of all (really) given (and yet merely) possible states of affairs."

„But in favour of (2) is the fact that in TLP 4.5 the general form of the proposition is given as "This is how things stand": the (elementary) proposition is accordingly a description (determination) of an object, i.e.: it describes an object in accordance with its logical form, which is the object's "space of possible states of affairs" (cf. TLP 2.013): as a description, the force of the proposition "reaches through the whole of logical space" (TLP 3.42), and in this respect it has at its disposal all its possibilities of transformation in truth-functional "logical space"."

„The ambiguity of the "object" shows itself, for example, in TLP 2.0122: "The THING is independent in so far as IT can occur in all *possible* situations, but this form of independence is [with regard to the thing] a form of connexion with states of affairs, a form of dependence." The THING as a derivative of formalization, as the meaning of the name, itself contains (autarkically) the possibilities of its occurrence in states of affairs (cf. TLP 2.014); the thing as the determined thing is essentially a constituent of a state of affairs (cf."

„The propositional variable "Φa" is the *name* that means the OBJECT Φa: this contains all the possibilities of its occurrence in states of affairs (cf. TLP 2.014 f.)."

„(1) With regard to the "form" of the object: the formulation that the "form" of an object is "necessarily satisfied", since the object necessarily "exists", overlooks, e.g., TLP 2.0141, according to which the form of the object is "the possibility of its occurring in states of affairs", but not its respective occurrences in states of affairs."

„Starting from the distinction between "*sentence-radical*" and proposition as a "*move in the language-game*" (cf. PI § 22 and footnote), Stenius put forward the thesis that in the TLP the sense of the proposition can be equated with the "descriptive content" of the proposition (which the sentence-radical represents or describes)."
