„Way of speaking (1), which Wittgenstein chooses, leads close to, but ultimately *past*, a realism regarding OBJECTS; way of speaking (2) would lead just as close to an idealism of the forms of consciousness *as* forms of the objects to be determined – suspect to Wittgenstein because of its psychologistic implications. For Wittgenstein, at any rate, the ontologizing way of speaking seemed to have the advantage, for against possible interpretative misunderstandings in the direction of an idealism regarding OBJECTS as substance, which "subsists independently of what is the case" (TLP 2.024), there is an effective antidote, kept at an exposed place in the TLP, in TLP 1: "The world is all that is the case." If, then, OBJECTS subsist independently of what is the case, they subsist independently of the world; the "subsistence" of OBJECTS is accordingly *defused* in the ontological respect."
